Augustusburg Castle, often simply called Brühl Castle, is one of the first important Rococo creations in Germany as the favorite residence of the Cologne Elector and Archbishop Clemens August from the House of Wittelsbach (1700 - 1761).

The Augustusburg and Falkenlust palaces are among the most important baroque and rococo buildings in Germany and were models for numerous German princely courts.

Augustusburg and Falkenlust Palaces are two former residences of the Prince-Bishops of Cologne in the North Rhine-Westphalian town of Brühl. The larger summer palace, Augustusburg, was built between 1725 and 1768 on the orders of Clemens August of Bavaria, based on designs by Johann Conrad Schlaun, François de Cuvilliés the Elder, and Balthasar Neumann. The smaller hunting lodge, Falkenlust, was built between 1729 and 1737 on the orders of Clemens August of Bavaria, based on designs by François de Cuvilliés the Elder. Notable features include the staircase in Augustusburg Palace, the Hall of Mirrors in Falkenlust Palace, and the palace gardens. As the "first significant creations of the Rococo style in Germany," both palaces were inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1984. (Source: Wikipedia)
