The August Kestner Museum is named after August Kestner. The old building of the oldest municipal museum in the state capital of Hanover is enclosed by a listed glass-concrete facade from 1961.
The museum is located in the city center next to the New Town Hall and is the only house in Hanover and the surrounding area to show 6,000 years of applied art in four collection areas: ancient and Egyptian cultures, applied art with a design collection and one of the largest collections of coins and medals in northern Germany .
