The Ampleber Kuhlen, once a ducal quarry, today an important geotope. Stones were broken here as early as the Middle Ages. These were used, among other things, for building projects in Braunschweig, at the high gate, the Petritor, Marienhospital and the Gewandhaus. Over time, an imposing canyon forest has emerged here.
