The Schillerwiesen have existed since around 1905. Before that there was farmland. Mayor Calsow already tried to set up a park here. The university then wanted a sports and games area for their students and leased the land. Today this is a well-visited destination. There are benches, a playground, paths for strolling, large lawns for a wide variety of leisure activities, as well as mini golf and tennis courts. The Scharnhorst temple is an eye-catcher. Above the Schillerwiese there is a rich spring - the Reinsbrunnen. It feeds several small ponds. There is usually less activity around the upper ponds. The entire pond cascade is varied. An interesting detail about the cascades: moss tuff forms next to the small waterfalls. Below Merkelstrasse, part of the park is dedicated to the town twinning with the Polish town of Thorn.

The Schillerwiesen are a beautiful transition between the Göttingen Forest and the city.
