Probably the oldest half-timbered house in Bad Orb was built around or shortly before 1550. The valuable building stock was extensively secured and restored in the 1970s.

Hiking

It has only borne this name since its exemplary restoration in 1972, which has inspired many homeowners to follow suit. The house is dated "before 1550." It must have been a bakery since ancient times. Note the guild symbol, the pretzel, in the door lintel from 1733. Local historian Dr. Heinz Dehmer suspected this was the Sommerlads' bakery. The family later moved to Giessen, and a branch from there to Leipzig. The current Swedish Queen Silvia is said to be descended from the latter.
