The Braderup Heath is a picturesque nature reserve on the island of Sylt, located between the towns of Braderup and Kampen. Covering approximately 137 hectares, it stretches along the Wadden Sea side of the island and offers visitors an impressive natural experience in every season. The heath is characterized by its unique flora and fauna. Especially in late summer, from August to September, the landscape glows a vibrant purple when the heather (Calluna vulgaris) blooms. In addition to the heather, crowberries and cross-leaved heather also characterize the landscape. The area has been a nature reserve since 1979 to protect the fragile heathland and the animal and plant species that live there, some of which are endangered. The Nature Conservation Association of Sylt e.V., acting on behalf of the Schleswig-Holstein state government, is responsible for the care and preservation of the heath. For hikers, the Braderup Heath offers well-marked trails that lead through the gently rolling landscape, offering impressive views of the Wadden Sea. A popular route is the approximately 7-kilometer circular trail that runs from Braderup to Kampen and back. Along the way, the traditional "Kupferkanne" (copper can) in Kampen invites you to stop for a cozy break.
