The Freckenfeld Wolfgangskirche dates back to the early 16th century. With 500 seats, it is still the largest neo-Gothic village church in the southern Palatinate area. It bears its Protestant name in memory of Archduke Wolfgang von Zweibrücken. In 1678 he gathered his troops in the “fields” (Freckenfeld-Steinfeld-Minfeld) to assist the threatened French Protestant co-religionists. He paid for this commitment to justified faith with his life.

For almost 200 years, the Freckenfeld Church has been used by the Catholic Church for worship services four times a year. That's why the Catholic name "St. Wolfgang's Church" is still in use today.

The prot. Wolfgang's Church is a common place of lived faith for Christians of both denominations.

Several stained glass windows with motifs from the history of the Reformation, the Old Testament, the Gospels and the Acts of the Apostles, created in the workshop of W. and D. Köhler, decorate the Protestant Wolfgangskirche.

For almost 200 years the Freckenfeld Church has been contractually regulated by the Catholic Church for worship services four times a year. That is why the Catholic name "St. Wolfgang's Church" is still in use today. "
