The age of the parish is unknown. Perhaps there was already a chapel when the village was first mentioned in a document (814). In 1267 an altar of the church was consecrated. A priest is mentioned for the first time in 1434. 1553 the Mauritius patronage is occupied. The patrons were those of Nippenburg until they expired in 1646. When the fief escheated, the right of patronage fell to the House of Württemberg as sovereigns. The Dukes of Württemberg also kept it when Schöckingen was given in fief to the von Gaisberg.

In the middle of the 16th century, Friedrich Nippenburger was the church lord, but did not hold the pastorate himself, but had a Mercenarius (hired clergyman) represent him. In contrast to the surrounding Württemberg communities, which had already become Lutheran in 1534, Schöckingen initially remained Old Believers, although there is evidence of contact between the Nippenburgers and the Anabaptists at the end of the 16th century (1589, 1594). The Reformation was introduced in 1599 on the orders of Duke Friedrich, who had temporarily confiscated the village of Schöckingen. The first evangelical pastor was Johannes Vischer from Reichenberg. The previous Catholic priest moved into the hospital in Stuttgart as a benefactor, where he still lived in 1611.

When the village fiefdom was set up (1718), the respective owner was granted the right to present three applicants from among the Württemberg pastors or certified graduates of the preacher seminary.
