After Elector August 1553 bought the Schwarzenberg dominion and had the Schwarzenberg Castle converted into a hunting lodge, the existing premises, the simple hunting sheds, were no longer sufficient for storing the hunting gear. Hunting lodges were built, which primarily served as accommodation for the hunting staff.
A third type were the hunting lodges as they were built in Burkhardtsgrün and Breitenbrunn.
They gave quarters to the princely hunters."The stone hunting lodge" in Breitenbrunn from the 16th century can still be seen in a stately ruin. It is to the right of the Christophoruskirche. The entire complex is still in good condition. The castle ruins and a music pavilion are embedded in a beautiful park and offer a romantic backdrop for cultural events of all kinds.
