One of the most impressive and moving monuments of World War I is the Menin Gate in Ypres. From here, many thousands of soldiers started to battlefields of the First World War - and many never returned. Since its establishment in 1927, every evening at 8 pm the tattoo is played here by the Last Post Association. The huge white stone walls of the Menor Gate contain inscriptions bearing the names of nearly 55,000 British soldiers and Commonwealth soldiers who fell on the battlefield and have no tomb.
