Abtei St. Hildegard

The St. Hildegard Abbey was only built at the beginning of the last century and was not founded by Hildegard von Bingen herself. Nevertheless, it goes back to the time of Saint Hildegard, to the Eibingen monastery in the Rheingau, which was newly settled in 1165 and secularized in 1802.

Here you have a wonderful view of the Rheingau. In the monastery restaurant mostly people with disabilities work their passionate job! Alone for that reason, the visit is worthwhile. It tastes really good there.

The St. Hildegard Abbey is mistakenly believed by some to be a Romanesque building. It was only built at the beginning of the 20th century, between 1900 and 1904. Nevertheless, the monastery sees itself as the foundation of St. Hildegard and ties the tradition directly to their old monastery in Eibingen in the Rheingau.

Here you can enjoy a very nice wine with a wonderful view over the Rhine Valley, which of course we did extensively during our visit there.

Very interesting for art lovers: Neo-Romanesque architectural style, painted after the Beuron school.
