Odense is the third largest city in Denmark after Copenhagen and Aarhus. The city itself has around 180,000 inhabitants, while around 205,000 people live in the entire municipality of Odense (2021).

Odense is one of the oldest cities in Denmark and was first mentioned in writing in 988.
The city's oldest district is home to many old half-timbered houses, including Ejler Rønnows Gård, Østerbyes Gård and Pernille Lykkes Boder, which are unique pieces of the cultural-historical city museum Møntergården.

The poet H. C. Andersen was born and raised in the city. Odense was in 1805 when H.C. Andersen was born, Denmark's second largest city with around 6,000 inhabitants, of which around 50% belonged to the poor lower class.

A cozy old town with pretty half-timbered houses, beautiful hollyhocks and many sculptures.

Odense's city center is a fascinating blend of historic charm
and modern urban development. It is known for its narrow streets, colorful half-timbered houses, and strong ties to the city's most famous son,
Hans Christian Andersen. The central shopping streets, Vestergade and Kongensgade
are pedestrian zones and form the vibrant heart of the city.
Here you'll find a variety of shops, cafés, and restaurants.
