The Schlüsselburg dates back to the Middle Ages and looks exactly as you would imagine a genuine knight's castle: It was originally built in 1335 and a moat runs around it. In the past there were several outbuildings, but today only the house that belongs to private individuals has survived.

The building that still exists today is the remainder of what was originally a two-wing complex. This complex was built between 1581 and 1585 and replaced the original buildings. The north wing was demolished in the 19th century. On the chimney of the north gable is a stork's nest, which has been permanently occupied since at least 1935.

Today the castle is privately owned and is not open to the public.
