In 1840, the Sint-Antonius Abtkerk (St. Anthony Abbot Church) was demolished to build a new, Neo-Gothic church in its place. In 1838, the diocese of Bruges had emphasized that new churches had to be built according to 'the purest rules of the Gothic style'. The current, three-nave Sint-Antonius Abtkerk was built between 1854 and 1856, designed by the Kortrijk architect Pierre Nicolas Croquison. Together with the Sint-Laurentiuskerk in Kooigem, it is one of the earliest examples of Neo-Gothic architecture in this region.
