Bader's daughter Agnes Bernauer, born in 1411, was the legally wedded wife of Duke Albrecht, the Wittelsbacher who resided in Straubing. She was put on trial by her father-in-law, Duke Ernst, in 1435 for alleged witchcraft. She was sentenced to death and drowned in the Danube. But her tragic fate made her immortal. In her honor, the Krönner confectionery created a very special layer cake made of nut meringue bases filled with mocha buttercream. Very tasty, absolutely recommended!

A visit to Straubing without the Agnes-Bernauer-Torte is only half the fun for me, but all the other cakes and tarts also look very promising (as I was told from a reliable source, they all taste good too).
