The Gäubodenvolksfest (short: Gäubodenfest) in Straubing is one of the largest folk festivals in Bavaria.

Although, in contrast to the Munich Oktoberfest, the majority of visitors are local, over a million (approx. 1.4 million, as of 2019)[1] visitors attend the event every year, which takes place at the Am Hagen festival site in Straubing.[2] The East Bavaria Show has been running parallel to the Gäubodenvolksfest since the middle of the 20th century and is one of the most important and successful consumer exhibitions in Bavaria, with 450,000 visitors annually. The name is derived from the Gäuboden, a geographically only roughly defined area, in the center of which is Straubing. The festival date is always in August of a calendar year and is based on the holiday “Assumption of Mary” (August 15). The Gäubodenvolksfest usually begins on the Friday (August 7th - August 13th) beforehand and ends 10 days later on the Monday (August 17th - August 23rd). If the holiday falls on a Friday or Saturday, the Gäubodenvolksfest begins on the Friday a week beforehand. The Ostbayernschau always begins on the Saturday and ends on the Sunday (9 days). Both events are planned and carried out by the Straubinger Ausstellungs- und Veranstaltung GmbH.
