The history of the property goes back to around the year 800, when a church in loco qui dicitur Laufzoro is first mentioned. The name refers to a cleared gathering place for game that was already there at that time. Over time, the hamlet became a Schwaige, which was acquired by the Wittelsbach family before 1446. From 1588, there is evidence of a regal horse breeding there. Between 1616 and 1619 Albrecht der Leuchtenberger, brother of the then reigning Duke Maximilian, had Laufzorn Castle built on the grounds of the Schwaige. The complex is now privately owned and unfortunately cannot be visited, but at least you can take a look at the main building from the gate and some information boards on site provide information about the history.
