Best Hikes to Duke Heinrich the Pious Monument

Tips

  • The statue of the city's founder based on a painting by Lucas Cranach the Elder
comes from the art workshop of the Dresden sculptor Friedrich Offermann and was in
Inaugurated in 1900. Duke Heinrich received his nickname "the Pious" from the Reformation he introduced in Saxony in 1539. The Bible reminds us of this at his feet. The monument stands on a base made of Swedish granite, which shows the coat of arms of Albertine Saxony.
