Tips

  • Occupying the former Derby Silk Mill, the Museum of Making celebrates Derbyshire’s rich industrial heritage. It’s a must on any visit to the Derwent Valley Mills UNESCO World Heritage Site. This modern museum opened its doors on 21 May 2021, after extensive renovations and rebranding. Entry to the main museum is free but there can be a charge to see visiting exhibitions.

Derby Silk Mill is regarded as the world's first modern factory. During its prime in the 18th century, around 300 people would have worked here. It represents one of the key sites in the history of the Industrial Revolution.
