Originally, Northeim had a 1,750 m long city wall with 48 city wall towers, 15 kennels and four additional ramparts as well as a later wall-ditch system. The three city gates were secured by gate bulwarks.
The approximately 880 m of city wall with the remains of the tower, bulwarks at the Zwinger and the Upper Gate as well as parts of the moat are still preserved today.
