The bell tower of Messina Cathedral contains the largest and most complex mechanical and astronomical clock in the world. It was manufactured by the Ungerer company from Strasbourg on behalf of Archbishop Angelo Paino and inaugurated on August 15, 1933. At midday, a complicated system of counterweights, levers and gears move the gilded bronze statues, which can be admired on the facade from the cathedral square (according to the information board in the church tower).
You can go up the tower and have a beautiful panoramic view of Messina.
