The Kurwaldbahn was put into operation in 1997. In 2005 it was completely renovated for Rhineland-Palatinate Day and at this time the two, 25-person cabins were also replaced.
The train operates daily between 6.15 a.m. and 10.30 p.m. and runs every 10 minutes except between 6.15 a.m. and 8 a.m. (7 minutes).
The track is 220 m long and overcomes a height difference of 132 meters with a maximum gradient of 78%.
There are three fare options. Single trip €3, ascent and descent €5 and 10th card for €18.

Above nice restaurant with incredible views over the spa town and into the Lahn valley. Beautiful hiking trails.

WITH THE FUNCTIONAL RAILWAY TO BISMARCKHÖHE - One of the steepest funiculars in the world ..."More than 150 meters separate the two spa areas on the Bismarckhöhe and in the historic valley location. Those who want to bridge the difference in altitude by the shortest route can take the Kurwaldbahn, a subsidiary of Staatsbad Bad Ems GmbH. The ultra-modern funicular is one of the steepest in the world. The ecological means of passenger transport transports up to 20 people in each of the two cabins. They meet halfway in the middle of the steep slope. The red cabins manage the exact height difference of 132 meters between the top and bottom stations in less than two minutes and that in ten minutes -Tact from 6:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. in the evening
