The 15 hectare natural forest cell on the Nonnenstromberg is an approx. 150 year old beech forest with oaks and was identified by the VVS as early as 1987.
The management is completely stopped here, which means that research can be carried out particularly well here.

Hiking

The area around the summit ridge of Nonnenstromberg is designated as a natural forest cell. The idea from the 1930s to remove the few surviving relics of semi-natural old-growth forests was taken up again in the European nature conservation year 1970. It led to the natural forest cell program in North Rhine-Westphalia.
