Very nice old train station to take a rest. The train carriages on display are a bit old, but the restaurant with terrace is great for a break. From time to time big festivals are held here.

For years, Station As played a central role in coal mining in this region, as the many miners and coal wagons traveled from here to the nearby mines in Eisden, Waterschei and Winterslag.
These times are over, Mother Nature was able to reclaim large areas and you can experience heathland landscapes, forests and moors here and now in the Hoge Kempen Nature Park. Find out more at the visitor center, which is authentically housed in a train carriage. Artists have given other old train cars new life as a street art project called "The Yard."
From the 31 meter high tower you have a unique view over both the national park and the former Limburg mining region. It is a replica of the drilling tower with which André Dumont discovered the first coal in Limburg.

The heritage-protected As train station serves as the gateway to the Hoge Kempen National Park and as a stopover for cyclists and hikers. Here you can fortify yourself in historical ambience for the onward journey, get information about the national park and the region or climb the 31 meter high lookout tower.
