    The monument to the builders of the bridge, inaugurated on September 29, 1864, commemorated the construction of the Pfaffendorfer Bridge, then known as the Koblenz Rhine Bridge. November the laying of the foundation stone, anno MDCCCLXIV on the IX. May the solemn inauguration of the Coblenz Rhine Bridge, built as a worthy monument of patriotic art and perseverance by the Rheinische Eisenbahn Ges. As a lasting reminder of the builders of the Rhine bridge Geh. Oberbaurat Hartwich, master builder Schwarz, master builder Sternberg, engineer Bendel, electricity construction director Nobiling. "On May 24th, 1876 the monument, which was also called "Koblenz Victory Column" due to its similarity to the Berlin Victory Column, had to be inaugurated again, as the original column had been destroyed by a devastating flood.
