The most striking structure in the park is the Triumphal Arch (French: Arcades du Cinquantenaire), which was completed in 1905. The arch is a monument to Belgian independence and consists of three equal arches with a bronze statue above the central arch representing Brabant on a chariot.

This palace was built to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the birth of Belgium as an independent nation. The building currently houses three museums: the Museum of the Army and Military History, the Cinquantenaire Museum and Autoworld, a major exhibition of cars from all eras.
