The original Holy Cross Chapel, one of the first parish centers of Mechelen, located on the Hogeweg, was destroyed in 1580; in 1627 it was replaced by a church dedicated to Saint Joseph, which in turn was demolished in 1798. The current neoclassical hall church dates from 1862-1867. The choir was last enlarged in 1900.
Meanwhile, the church is back renovation.

The Sint Jozefkerk Battelic church stands out for its majesty and the elegance of its architectural forms. The main facade is impressive, with a combination of stone and brick which gives it a solemn and imposing appearance. Above the main portal, a large rose window decorated with stained glass delicately filters the light inside the building, creating a spiritual and evocative atmosphere.
