The Benoît-Champy is a teak lifeboat with sails and oars. Unsinkable, it is self-righting and self-draining spontaneously.
It belongs to the municipality of Cayeux-sur-Mer.
The Benoît-Champy has been classified as a historical monument since May 21, 1992.

    Shelter of Benoît-Champy.
Built in 1879 by the Ponts et Chaussées, the Benoît-Champy lifeboat shelter was then located on the Place de l'Amiral-Courbet. But the growing success of sea bathing and the rise of the seaside resort of Cayeux forced the relocation of this shelter in 1913. The new shelter was rebuilt identically with the materials of the previous one, on land belonging to the municipality, on Boulevard du Général-Sizaire.
In 1957, the Cayeux rescue station was closed and the shelter thus lost its function.
The Benoît-Champy lifeboat shelter is fully listed as a historical monument by decree of July 25, 20063. It is a completely ordinary brick construction, covered with a gable roof, above all functional. But today, few lifeboats still have their original shelter.
This shelter is an additional asset for the history of sea rescue in the Picardy region and the development of a project to enhance the seaside resort of Cayeux-sur-Mer. Inside, all of the equipment needed to put the boat into operation is kept there: barrel of galley, wooden buckets, medicine box, compass, alarm bell and tub for rinsing the sails ...
The shelter and its canoe are open to the public during the bathing season; it is the pretext for discovering the history of sea rescue on the Picardy coast.
