The Oldenburg lock, which connects the Hunte to the coastal canal and the West German canal network, was built between 1922 and 1928. The two lock gates were renewed in the 1990s. The chamber is 105 meters long and 12 meters wide and the difference in altitude is about 5.40 meters at low tide. The lock is fed with water from the coastal channel.
