The Interiors
The late neoclassical oval reception room at the current museum entrance and the Idyll Room, with all 43 paintings from the Idyll Cycle by Johann Heinrich Wilhelm Tischbein, the court painter to Duke Peter Friedrich Ludwig, are considered outstanding. Even though not all of the historical furnishings have survived the years, rooms like these convey the splendor and beauty in which the rulers of Oldenburg once lived.

The museum also presents changing exhibitions and maintains two additional locations: the Augusteum houses the Old Masters Gallery, and the Prince's Palace houses the New Masters Gallery, featuring paintings from the 19th century onward.
The palace gardens, which Duke Peter Friedrich Ludwig had laid out as an English-style landscape garden at the beginning of the 19th century, are inextricably linked to the palace. Old solitary trees, streams, flowerbeds, and historic buildings such as the Tea Pavilion and the Court Gardener's House continue to characterize the landscape to this day.
