Roberto Burle Marx (* 4 August 1909 in São Paulo; † 4 June 1994 in Rio de Janeiro) was a Brazilian landscape architect, plant collector and painter. One of his works: The 4 km long Calçadão de Copacabana along the Avenida Atlântica, abstract ornaments in white limestone and black and red basalt, Rio de Janeiro (1970), the first beach promenade in Brazil.
