The real treasure of this region are the hot springs, which not only heat the greenhouses, but with the Hengill geothermal area also make for a very interesting scenic walk. Easy hike on well-marked trails.

When I was last here 3 years ago, the parking lot was a small gravel road...it is now paved, with a cafe and toilets next to it, and costs 250ISK (for cars) per hour to park. I thought it was ok as the toilets were free to use although remembering my last visit made me feel a little nostalgic...
