"Similarity to the coal mine Bismarck 1/4
In 1869, the Belgian Société Civile Belge des Charbonnages d 'Herne-Bochum commenced the sinking of the Clerget I shaft in Recklinghausen-South.
Their name, soon turned into "Klärchen" by the miners, was given to a mine near a place near Brussels. In 1889 Harpener Bergbau AG acquired the mine property of the Belgian company. The mine Clerget I has now been renamed Recklinghausen I.
On December 12, 1900, the Oberbergamt Dortmund finally banned the simultaneous use of one and the same shaft for the intake and extraction of fresh or used air and gases (weather). Therefore, as on many other mines at the time, a second shaft had to be drilled on Recklinghausen. For the installation of the new shaft several daytime facilities of the colliery had to be demolished, including the administrative and chewing building. They were replaced around 1900 by the still existing buildings. The new shaft promoted from 1905 to 1931, then went minefield and shafts on the plant Recklinghausen II.
Of the daytime facilities of the mine, only the three-part chewing and administration building is preserved. With its alternating plasterwork and brick facades it resembles very much the chewing of Bismarck 1/4 mine built at the same time. The larger, closer to the road, elongated construction is covered with four shed roofs. It contained the magazine rooms in the high basement floor, the ground floor was strictly separated for older and youthful workers, dressing rooms, shower rooms and toilets. At the front of the gable side of the central building there was a day room for the day workers and the brand control in the basement. The rear area was intended for the lamp room.
