The church was a pilgrimage destination of European importance from the late 14th to the mid-16th centuries, after belief in a miracle of the Host spread in 1383. After the Reformation, the first evangelical pastor of Wilsnack, Joachim Ellefeld, destroyed the alleged miracle hosts by burning them in front of witnesses in 1552. This eliminated the reason for the pilgrimages.

In front of the church there is a wind sound sculpture "Steps into silence", it can be rotated. A pilgrimage saying: "The listening expands, outwards and inwards. Sometimes the song of the wind reaches your ear, touches your heart, your soul."
