In the valley of the Eger, embedded in untouched nature at the foot of the castle Hohenberg, since the year 1626 a sour well is known, which was used above all for drinking cures (Osann 1832, Mueller 1843, v. Gumbel 1879, Quentin 1971). In 1824, this source was given the title Carolinenquelle with the consent of the Bavarian Queen Caroline.
