Warmensteinach Former Train Station

There used to be a local train from Bayreuth to Warmensteinach. This branch line was of great importance for the transport of goods (wood, granite, glass, lime) and in winter special ski trains ran regularly to the ski area around the Ochsenkopf.
There were first considerations to discontinue passenger services in 1974. Increasing parallel traffic with rail buses reduced the profitability of the route. At the end of 1992, the train service between Weidenberg and Warmensteinach had to be stopped for technical reasons, the rails had worn out after decades of neglect.
Buses have now replaced rail. The municipality of Warmensteinach and the tourist information office are housed in the old station building.

The former station building, the railway stop that was closed in 1993, was acquired by the municipality of Warmensteinach and now houses the town hall and a tourist information office. This also includes the outbuilding, which was restored to its original state during the renovation. The associated locomotive shed, however, is still unused.

On an Advent weekend there is a lovely Christmas market around the train station and town hall. The newly built town centre is now a lovely spot in the town.
The old railway line has been converted into a cycle path. This takes you to Weidenberg and then further towards Bayreuth along the still existing railway line.
Some hiking trails cross here, including the Glasweg and the Südweg (Neuenmarkt/Wirsberg station - Wiesau station 84 km)
