The towpaths are mostly practicable by mountain bike OR VTC / GRAVEL. They connect the locks and villages where the relaxation areas allow you to eat (restaurants, snacks or mini markets ...).

Depending on the region, "the towpath" does not always appeal to everyone (the Tourist Offices will confirm this).
"Hauling" comes from the verb haler: "to tow a building along a waterway or a quay using a cable or rope, from the bank", says the Larousse.
It is therefore the path that runs along a river; in the Cognac region in particular, it previously allowed horses to pull flat-bottomed boats called gabarres, filled with salt from the coast.
By visiting the museum in Saint Simon you will learn more about this other local typicality "the barge", where they were made at the time, and which played a key role in the development of trade on the rivers of the Atlantic seaboard.
The FlowVélo has many passages on towpaths of which this one is one.
