The well-preserved Reichenstein Castle is a historic landmark and is rented by the municipality of Arlesheim for celebrations and events. It can accommodate 50 people.story
Located on the northern slope of Reichensteiner Berg, the castle is first documented in 1239 as "Castrum Birseke superior". Once owned by the Alsatian monastery of Niedermünster, it was sold to the Bishop of Basel in the same year. After 1245 the Birseckburg reached as a castle fief to the family empire and receives her around 1250 their new name "Castle Reichenstein". The Reich family owed their name to their wealth.In the 17th century the castle finally disintegrated, but remained in the possession of the Reich family, which only sold it in 1813 together with groves to the Basel silk manufacturer Johann Forcat.
After several changes of ownership acquired in 1932, the then Ciba Director Dr. J. Brodbeck the castle ruins including forest. He had the castle reconstructed as a summer residence according to the plans of the well-known castle researcher and architect Eugen Probst from Zurich, whereby the reconstruction of the fortified tower was limited. In 1938, Dr. J. Brodbeck a family foundation, which was converted in 1972 into a public-law foundation. Since then, the castle serves today's use.
