Malta - Valletta, whose Maltese name is Il-Belt, is the small capital of the Mediterranean island nation of Malta. The walled city was founded on a peninsula by the Roman Catholic Order of St John in the 16th century. It is known for its museums, palaces and magnificent churches. One of the city's baroque landmarks is St. John's Co-Cathedral. In its lavishly designed interior is Caravaggio's masterpiece "The Beheading of John the Baptist".
