The origins of Meppen date back to the year 1360. At the confluence of the Hase and Ems rivers, it was the ideal location for a settlement. A few centuries later, Meppen had grown into a prince-bishop's fortress town. Parts of the fortifications are still visible in the ramparts. We walk the entire star-shaped 2.5-kilometer-long rampart.
