View from the Eiskeller platform over Waren and Tiefwarensee

A worthwhile view of the southern tip of the Tiefwarensee. The gardens below can also be admired from above.

Everyone in Waren knows it from the outside, but very few know what it looks like from the inside. And it will stay that way, because the Warener Eiskeller am Stüde has been refreshed a bit, but not to make it more attractive for people, but for bats. It was only possible to take a brief look into the listed ice cellar before it was bricked up again.

While older Waren residents still remember the function of this building, which looks rather boring from the outside, younger people in particular often wonder what the walls are all about.
Here's the explanation: In the past, blocks were cut from the ice of the neighboring Tiefwarensee and stored in this ice cellar, which was built into a slope. The blocks were then removed over the course of the year for cooling in butcher shops and breweries. With the invention of refrigerators, however, ice cellars were no longer needed.
Today you have a good view of the Tiefwarensee and parts of Waren's old town from the roof of the ice cellar.
