Cycling

The valuable white sand of Mol was discovered by digging the Dessel-Schoten canals. A new profitable industry was born in the Kempen. The canals and white sand then played a key role in the economic development of the region. The view of the Kempen landscape was thoroughly changed and the white sand exploration left its mark on the region. In the following decades, the extraction of white sand turned many hectares of Kempen fields, meadows and forests into ponds.

The Kanaalmeer, a former sand extraction pit, is mainly used for various water sports. From the banks it is pleasant to stay and enjoy all that water hassle.
Many people from the wider region (and far beyond) know this location in a green Kempen oasis.
