The old university library or official "the historic building of the State and University Library Göttingen" is located in Papendiek 14 in 37073 Göttingen and forms a building complex together with the Kollegienhaus and the monastery church of St. Peter and Paul.
It is a stone building from the Gründerzeit.
1878-1882 built after the demolition of older university buildings to a design by Bernhard Kühn
1903-1904 extension of the west wing
1945-1949 Rebuilding after bomb damage by an air raid
since 1992 Center for the Historical Stocks and Special Collections of the Nds. State and University Library (SUB)

In the old building, it houses valuable manuscripts and rare prints.
