The history of the Marienkapelle goes back to the 18th century. On July 22nd, 1741, Thomas Scholl, a citizen of Simonskall, was granted a seven-year chapel license by the Vicariate General. The chapel was initially in a specially furnished room in the "Simonskaller Burg". Over the years this authorization has been renewed again and again, most recently on April 28, 1917. As the chapel became too small over the years, the Simonskall Chapel Building Association was founded on October 17, 1930.
The residents of the village donated a piece of land. Today's Marienkapelle was built above the small town with funds from the church and the community of Hürtgenwald in 1935.

The Marienkapelle, damaged by the war, was repaired in the summer of 1952. In the autumn of 1977 the interior of the chapel was renovated. In 2010, 75 years after the chapel was built, the chapel roof was finally renovated, financed by concerts and donations.
The existing old Raphael bell from 1935 was repaired and a donated tower cross was also attached to the tower. Source and further interesting information about the Marienkapelle Simonskall can be found here: kapelle-simonskall.de/historisches
