The more than 100 year old beech is cared for by the Hagstedt village community. Under the huge treetop is a crossroad, the so-called "Wendt Krüz". The imposing tree and the cross are reminiscent of the lonely death of the cellist Josef August Beneke on February 10, 1898 at this location.

Beautifully grown beech - enormous size. When I passed it, children were playing in the branches and climbing around in the tree.
A crucifix and the later planted beech are reminiscent of a bereavement that you can learn more about in the photos.

I have never seen such a tree, more than impressive. When you stand in front of the cross under the huge dome of the branches, the world out there is suddenly very far away. I will certainly visit this place again, but not with a large group like today, but for myself alone.
