The Gernot Rumpf wine fountain in Bad Bergzabern. The fountain shows the lamb, monkey, lion and pig. The following text can be read in front of the fountain:When Noah, the ancestor of all vintners, was stranded with his ark, the angel of the Lord gave him a vine. In order for the young vine to flourish, he should water it with the blood of a lamb and a monkey. The devil who had followed this scene added more: blood from the lion and the pig.
Since then, the following applies to wine:
Whoever drinks a jug becomes pious and tame as a lamb.
Who drinks two, docile and funny as a monkey.
Who drinks three, strong and roaring like a lion.
But whoever drinks four grunts and rolls like a pig.
