Best Hikes to Bronze Pig Family (Buxtehude)

Tips

  • There used to be a butcher right at the entrance to the Westfleth Passage, but it has unfortunately been closed for some time. The bronze pigs were a visual reference to the business.

  • The pigs can be found in a backyard in the old town.

  • Even though the Klaus Bitter butcher shop in Buxtehude no longer exists, its bronze pigs are still there. Hidden, in other words, on the half-timbered wall in the Westfleth passage.
The Bitter family was a wealthy, respected family in Buxtehude for many generations. And the fact that pigs are an important economic factor in the Altes Land region can also be seen in other cities… in Stade, however, the butcher sits on the roof, while in Buxtehude, a pig sits.
