The Recknitz represents the historical border between Mecklenburg and Western Pomerania and is today a species-rich nature reserve. It used to serve as a trade route to the Baltic Sea. Today, the Recknitztal is a protected landscape area and from Tessin is to be suitable year-round ideal for exploring by canoe. The 88.9 km long river rises north of Teterow and flows into the Saaler Bodden near Ribnitz-Damgarten. In some places reaches the Recknitz depths of up to 4 meters, but flows mostly leisurely along pristine, green riverside.
