Wayside shrine - monasteries, VogelsangwegThe three-part wayside shrine made of light sandstone is characterized by a high figure niche. Its shape is based on a Gothic church window. It looks elegant and slim. The niche adapts to the top of the wayside shrine that ends in a gable roof. The crowning glory of this presumably neo-Gothic building is an attached sandstone cross. The sandstone painting is said to go back to the Baroness von Twickel, who had it created in the 1880s.There used to be a figure of Mary in the niche, in 1997 the wayside shrine was redesigned by Haus Vogelsang GmbH. Today there is a Barbara figure in the niche, donated by ?. An inscription plaque was embedded in the base: “St. Barbara, we ask for your protection! ”The shrine was inaugurated in December 1997 in the presence of the“ Glückauf ”miners' association.Source and information about other wayside shrines and holy houses in the Datteln area:
