Hof Schmitte, first mentioned in 1412 as a forest blacksmith, has had several functions throughout its history. At the time it was first mentioned, an iron hammer (powered by the Bieber's water power) forged iron, which was smelted in the surrounding area. Around 1400, the operation of racing stoves in the forests was generally prohibited. The operation was probably changed in the middle of the 16th century and water power was used to grind grain.
The estate (converted into a knightly manor in 1457) has been repeatedly expanded over the centuries and is now taking on a new function. The topping-out ceremony was celebrated in May 2020. More in the video:
